I was recently asked what qualities are important to me in the people I work with.

The question really got me to thinking about what I stand for. At first I was not sure how to answer, but then I realized I have definitely thought long and hard about the personal traits I value.

Integrity

Have the courage to say no. Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity.
W. Clement Stone

Honesty

No legacy is so rich as honesty.
William Shakespeare

Respect

Everyone should be respected as an individual, but no one idolized.
Albert Einstein

Sometimes these terms seem vague and highfalutin’, so really, I just some it up in a great advertising slogan from State Farm.

Be a good neighbor.

I figure if carry out my own values and treat people like my neighbor — they’ll give back the same values and more. You’ve got to give respect to get respect. You’ve got to be honest to expect honesty of others. And if you want to work with people of integrity, you must be a person of integrity yourself.

No one wants a bad neighbor. Not a home, and not in business.
