What you need to know about content marketing

What is content marketing?

Content marketing is pretty simple actually, it’s the distribution of content that draws potential clients and customers to your brand/business. Content can be distributed in a variety of ways including social media, digital marketing campaigns, and email blasts. Content gives your brand the ability to be noticed by your target market through text and imagery that speaks to them.

Why is content marketing an important part of my marketing strategy?

The answer is quite simple. Trust and findability! In this age of technology and virtual existence, people are looking for brands they can trust. The more relatable content you produce, the more trustworthy your brand appear to consumers. Content marketing also helps you reach more people because it increases your findability. The more you are out there with your brand and messaging, the more likely you are to be found. According to the Content Marketing Institute, content marketing is proven to increase sales, produce cost savings, and create better and more loyal customers. There are multiple studies on the power of content marketing efforts. Check out a few case studies here to learn more about how other brands are using content marketing.

Doing content marketing correctly.

It’s important that you take your time and build a strategy. Sometimes businesses think, “I just need to hurry up and produce a bunch of content and then I’ll see results,” when the truth is that this isn’t the best approach. First, you want to decide what kind of message you are wanting to send. Then, you need to figure out who your audience is and what kind of content they are interested in. Research their habits and interests. What are they following? Research some businesses like yours to see what kind of content they are releasing. Lastly, make a strategic plan. Release the content in a way that makes sense to what you are trying to accomplish. Stay consistent, but watch the analytics! This may seem conflicting, but you want to keep some semblance of consistency while keeping a close eye on the analytics to see what is attracting the most reaction and interaction.  It’s not just about producing good content, it’s about producing content that will turn your audience into customers.

Content marketing has become a necessity to any marketing plan and when done right, will take marketing efforts to the next level. It’s important to take your time and build a framework that will help you reach your audience effectively.
